Inside the minds of 2nd Birthday members

We're a charity... I've got a new music box, and we saw a giant spider.

Some good news... after 6 months of a fair bit of backwards and forwards, 2nd Birthday has officially been granted charity status. Great news. This opens up more possibilities for us to raise funds for the venue, and to make sure there's a great programme of work to liven up even the quietest of Bournemouth nights. Also makes it easier and more attractive for property owners to work with 2nd Birthday to fill their empty spaces, making the idea even more irresistable! Everything continues to move forwards..

Totally unconnected, but equally great news, is that I've added a music box to my ever-growing collection of random musical instruments (joining the musical frog, organ, gongs to name a few). I got it in Liverpool when the 2nd Birthday team went up to check out the capital of culture and the pretty stunning 'La Princesse' produced by the amazing Artichoke productions. I don't think i've ever seen so many people lining the steeets, filling the squares, and hanging off windows and lamp-posts. It seemed like the whole city was out to catch a glimpse of the giant mechanical spider roaming the city. Have a look at www.lamachine.co.uk/index.php/gallery/.  All good for feeding the creative brain...

What is the face of 2nd Birthday?

People always say...

"wow.. that's such a great idea, where are you based?"

"brilliant where is the space?"

"where, where, where?????"

and we always say...

"we are working on it!"

Well it looks like we are getting somewhere and we hope to be able to say WHERE and WHEN very soon. Keep everything crossed, fingers, toes.....

and..

Seed Studio

DeKoolKatz....

Present in collaboration with Winchester wine bar Bournemouth

A series of fortnightly / monthly poetry nights.

Calling all poets and word-smiths alike...

If you've ever seen one of DeKoolKatz events you will know that  we pride our self's on being that bit more experimental with our productions, so with that in mind, we are looking for the following:

Poets

Story-tellers

Beat-boxers

Opera singers

Creative writers

Movement based performers

Linguistic performers

Brief

We have been asked by a mainstream wine bar to produce and present poetry nights (dates to be confirmed) with a difference.

Concept

The poetry night will be set as a play, composed entirely of existing and (or) new poems, linked with one or two professional character actors (from DeKoolKatz) the events will be broken down into genres/ subject matter I.E from the romantic's to beat poetry etc.

Supported by Seed Studios video production and set design, creating interchangeable back-drops based on a chosen theme

If your interested in either performing your poetry or simply allowing one of the other poets/performers to read it, then please contact

2nd birthday nuptuals and things

Posted by Marianne in Untagged

Marianne

June and July are flying by at a rate of knots and I find my head spinning slightly at all the exciting developments, plans and ideas we're hatching at 2nd Birthday....  we've also had our first 2nd birthday handfasting (of sorts) in the stone circle at glastonbury - with our most noble elder Rob presiding, supported by an amazing musical ensemble of the rest of the 2nd birthday team... we even had cake.

Glastonbury is a riot of colour, beats, rhythms, basslines, costumes, glitter, dancing, mobbing, walking and walking and walking, and a flurry of sights only to be found in that corner of Somerset for that week of the year- and I loved it. We traipsed the entire site in a state of awe and wonder-  at the fierce fire forged creations in Trash City - hid from the scary body-socked stiled people and found refuge in carosel cafes in Shangri-La - danced like lemons to some increadible live music from legends such as Roisin Murphy;  a very spritely Jimmy Cliff; Alabama 3; Joan Armatrading; Horace Andy with Massive Attack; and got blown away by new sound poineers of the likes of Battles; Mystery Jets and hundreds more sounds that washed over us, punctuating our adventures .... not to mention how much we loved tripping over some of the most amazing installations, artwork, living sculptures, performances, happenings, all of which created unique experiences for the 150,000 people there.

... and all this when we weren't working as puppeteers for the wonderful Herbie Treehead in his Fat Belly Puppet Cafe.

Its amazing where you can find inspiration and ideas for creating increadible cultural experiences for people - and we've got a whole heap we're working on for the 2nd Birthday venue.... more blogs on YOUR part in this will be posted soon.. so keep it here...
