Sideshow took place in August 09 and a throughly good time was had by all.

Unused buildings… empty beach huts… blank shop windows… It’s looking a bit bleak out there. Fear not!

For the month of August 2009 artists will unite to take over these spaces filling them with quirky, thrilling and fantastic artwork. 2nd Birthday have been working with local property agents and Bournemouth Borough Council for over a year to enable artists from across the country to brighten up and bring some much needed culture to their empty spaces. Side Show is a culmination of this work funded by Bournemouth Borough Council, Arts Council England, and UnLTD and made possible by the generous support of Ellis and Partners and Goasdby and Harding property agents.

Artists working in visual art, live art, performance, circus, theatre, dance, digital media, light and sound will be creating new work, showcasing the best of their creations and transforming Bournemouth as you’ve never seen it before.

2ND BIRTHDAY - BEACH HUTS ANIMATION BY JAMES PRICE

Beach Huts was an open commission as part of the 2nd Birthday SideShow Festival 2009. Throughout August a series of disused spaces, including 6 beach Huts, were transformed with the best in installation, performance and live art. James Price was commissioned to create a piece of work jointly with audiences at the Beach Huts next Bournemouth Pier.

As night falls the showroom comes to life with show stopping performances, live bands and DJs along with some very special 2nd Birthday and ishihara surprises, including…a dinner party with a difference, a séance with a Pied Wagtail, a visit from the legendary carpet head, dancers climbing the walls and live music from ishihara regulars and Bristol’s best Dr Meaker and the leading light of Balkan music Max Pashm.
